Histoire du terme

Calque de l'anglo-américain, intelligence artificielle [...] désigne la partie de l'informatique qui vise la simulation des facultés cognitives humaines (abrév. I.A.). Cependant, le syntagme intelligence artificielle avait déjà été employé en 1862 par George Sand (« elle avait ce que l'on peut appeler une intelligence artificielle », Horace), la formule étant reprise en 1880 à propos d'un type d'intelligence humaine. Le sens moderne apparaît (en français) en 1959 (J. Bureau, L'Ere logique) et est devenu très fréquent, désignant abusivement tout système automatique utilisant l'électronique.
